What are the best spiritual books to read?

A question I get asked all the time is where do I start on my spiritual journey and what books are the best spiritual books to read? So my friends, my soul fam, I have crafted out my top 8 best spiritual books for beginners.

I love reading books, physical books that you can hold in your hands, that you can smell the crisp pages, listen to the turning of the page, and feel like you’re hanging out with an old friend. I’ve never gotten into reading books online or on a device, I love keeping as many things as old school as possible, the tangible, the physical, books included.

Today I’m sharing with you my top 8 spiritual books that opened my eyes and supported me through the beginning of my spiritual journey. I share these with you with the intention to guide and support anyone who is feeling alone or confused with where they are at, knowing there is more to life out there and the hope that you will begin to find some of those answers in these books. All of these books are books I have and will continue to pick up time and time again, always gaining something new from them each time I pick them up with more awareness, new ways of thinking and being, each step along my journey. I’ve linked each book in the title to go directly to the product page on Booktopia*

My Top 8 Spiritual Books for Beginners List

The Soul Searchers Handbook - Emma Mildon (Click to buy)

This is the holy grail that I recommend to anyone that is at the beginning of their spiritual journey. Em is a friend of mine and has had a huge influence over my spiritual awareness (Thanks Em). This book was the starting point for me, as it covers many new age ideas and tools in a really simple and easily digestible way, along with Em’s humour, because who doesn’t love a lol when reading a book. The Soul Searchers Handbook is broken down into three parts, healthy body, awakened mind and vibrant spirit, covering all the things from crystals, chakras and feng shui, to dreams, mudras, universal laws and your light council. You can tell from the cover and the pages that I love this book and refer back to it even now. Everyone needs this on the bookshelf.

Miracles Now - Gabrielle Bernstein (Click to buy)

If you haven’t heard of Gabby, she is one you will want to have in your library with over 6 published best selling books, she is the queen of new age spirituality and trusting in the universe. Miracles Now is full of 108 life changing tools that support you to thrive and connect deeper with the universe. They’re bite sized lessons and techniques that you can easily add into your life without feeling along with an affirmation at the end of each lesson. A great introduction to spirituality without the confusion or overwhelm, also a great book to have for those seasoned spiritual pros, with reminders that we all need no matter where we are at one our journey.

The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle (Click to buy)

Now this book, is one of those books, that you might pick up, read a few pages and just don’t resonate with it, you put it back on the shelf and then a week, month or year later, you pick it up and can’t put it down because it is setting your soul on fire! That’s what happened for me. The Power of Now begins to dive a bit deeper into the ideas of consciousness, unconsciousness, enlightenment and peace. You’ll no doubt have some big aha moments reading this one, realising the power of surrender and detachment from your mind.

why read spiritual books

The Celestine Prophecy - James Redfield (Click to buy)

I read this book last year and truly loved it, I found it gave a magical understanding of energy and the power our mind, thoughts and emotions have over the quality and creation of our life. It is written a story which follows the main character experiencing many synchronicities as he discovers parts of a manuscript that shares nine insights of spiritual awareness. This books something different as you follow the adventure of the story line but at the same time learn lessons and insights that will support your growth on your spiritual journey. This is one you could read again and again and each time gain something new from it.

Conversations with God Book One - Neale Donald Walsch (Click to buy)

One of my favourites, that I like to turn back to whenever I need a pep talk, Conversations with God follows the author’s experience of having an unexpected and ongoing Conversation with God weaving in and out of many topics including everyday problems and troubles, suffering, relationships, money, happiness, desires, values and so much more. This is easy to follow regardless of if you are religious or believe in a god, as long as you have trust that there is a universal energy (the universe, source, spirit, mother earth, god) that works with us and our energy, then this read will feel really good for you. What I loved the most is that ‘God’ is really funny and also straight to the point, so many aha moments and encourages you to really focus on the things that matter and spend less energy on complaining and overthinking.

Light is the New Black - Rebecca Campbell (Click to buy)

You can feel the energy of this book when you hold it in your hands and the cover gives you a taste of what kind of radiant magic is inside. Rebecca Campbell calls you forward to start listening to your soul and to step into your light. An empowering read where you realise that you’re in the drivers seat of your life and you get to choose and create whatever it is your heart and soul desire. There’s no hiding reading this book, the responsibility for your life is put back onto you, in the most warm, loving and empowering way. The chapters are bite size and it’s another one where you can pick it up anyday, open to a page for a mini pep talk. There is a second book from Rebecca Campbell that is just as good, Rise Sister Rise.

most powerful spiritual books

The Untethered Soul - Michael A. Singer (Click to buy)

This book takes you into the depths of self awareness and non attachment pretty quickly, walking you through what you think happens in your mind but what is really happening in your mind. As I’m flicking through the pages right now, I’m like DAM I need to read this again. This book activates freedom within oneself both internally and externally, taking you through how to find freedom in your emotions, energy and choosing happiness. If I was putting these books in any kind of order, this book would go to the top and be what I recommend you read first.

why read spiritual books

Stop Missing the Point - Peta Kelly (Click to buy)

PK, one of my biggest role models on so many levels. This is a new book but I had to put it in this list, as it bridges the gap between what new age spirituality has become and shows you what it can be, it can be fun, light-hearted and just because you’re living a human experience with human desires and emotions, doesn’t take away from your spirituality or connection to source. I love this woman, what she stands for and the messages she shares with the world. Another one that is a MUST read.

There you have it friends!!! This is a great starting point on your self-awareness journey! Please share in the comments what your best spiritual books of all time are, do you have some to add? There are so many more spiritual books I could add to this list, but without overwhelming you, I feel in my heart this is a great starting point for those who are wanting to dive a bit deeper into their journey of reconnecting to their truth.
